Halal Restaurants in Tokyo

Japan is renowned for its incredible food scene, offering everything from succulent yakiniku to the ever-popular ramen. There's truly something for everyone to enjoy. However, navigating Japanese cuisine can be challenging and sometimes frustrating for those of us with dietary restrictions. As Muslims living in or visiting Japan, this struggle can feel even more pronounced. Finding food that adheres to a Halal diet while exploring the streets can be tough, and locating restaurants that cater to these needs is often even harder.

That’s why I’d like to introduce five Halal-certified restaurants in and around Tokyo to make your dining experience easier and more enjoyable. Many of these places also provide a prayer room that’s available for customers to use freely.

1. Yakiniku: Wagyu-panga

As Muslims, the first thing we notice is the Halal mark sitting right on the front door! That’s already a good sign (haha get it?). Wagyu Panga is a highly regarded halal-certified restaurant in Tokyo, specializing in premium wagyu beef. Located in the Taito district, Wagyu Panga offers an authentic yakiniku (Japanese barbecue) experience, where guests can grill their own carefully selected cuts of A5-grade wagyu right at their table.

The restaurant is fully halal-certified, ensuring that Muslim diners can enjoy the rich and flavorful taste of Japan's finest beef while adhering to their dietary requirements. Wagyu Panga is a top destination for those seeking a memorable and authentic halal yakiniku experience in Japan. On their website, you can see their full menu to get an idea of the type of food they serve. They have an Instagram, Facebook, and many other locations around Japan so please go check them out!

When we come to Japan we want to enjoy one of the most widely popular foods they have to enjoy. That is, of course, ramen! However, due to how it’s usually prepared that is easier said than done. Thanks to Ramen Honolu we can now enjoy one of these rich and delicious foods. Ramen Honolu Shinjuku-Gyoenmae is a popular halal-certified ramen restaurant in Tokyo, offering rich and flavorful bowls of authentic Japanese ramen.

3. Sukiyaki: Diyafa

I’m seriously getting hungry just looking at all of this food. The next on the list comes with a very warm-hearted story. The Halal-certified restaurant was born out of a desire to offer Muslim travelers a chance to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine due to a story shared by a tour guide, whose Muslim clients, despite loving Japan, struggled to find halal food and had to rely on fast food during their trip. Diyafa was established to ensure that Muslim visitors can savor the safe and delicious local cuisines of Japan. All of the wagyu beef and seasoning, including soy sauce and miso adhere to Japan’s Halal Certification standards Alhumdullilah.

So if you're in the mood for some delicious sukiyaki then please give this restaurant a try.

4. Ayam-Ya Shin-Okachimachi

Let’s have a look at another ramen place. Ayam-Ya Shin-Okachimachi is a halal-certified ramen restaurant originally from Kyoto, known for its flavorful ramen made with rich chicken broth. The name "Ayam," meaning "chicken" in Indonesian and Malay, highlights the restaurant's focus on chicken-based dishes. A must-try item is the Noko Tori Soba Shio, featuring noodles in an extra-rich chicken broth seasoned with salt, offering a deeply savory and collagen-packed experience.

Now, I’m not much of a spicy gal, but for those who enjoy the heat, Ayam-Ya offers six different spice levels, making their spicy noodles a hot seller. The Shin-Okachimachi branch also offers exclusive side menu items such as deep-fried dumplings, spring rolls, and samosas (crispy, deep-fried pastries with chicken filling), providing a perfect complement to their signature ramen.

It’s always touch and go when it comes to eating or not eating sushi, but thankfully Asakusa Sushi-ken has us covered. Asakusa Sushi-Ken is the first-made Halal Sushi restaurant in Tokyo.
